Challenge
How can Ajka optimise its public transport network to ongoing infrastructural changes?
CURRENT SITUATION
The City of Ajka (Hungary), has a population of 28,000 inhabitants.
The city is a central hub for work, health, and educational services. It has merged from 6 villages and therefore more than 14 000 citizens commute to Ajka city centre every day.
Over the last 10 years the number of cars in the city has increased by 24%. The Municipality of Ajka has decided to re-organise and optimise the public transportation system to address the local and regional mobility issues that arise from high congestion rates and insufficient public transportation routes. The construction of a new bridge in the city is at the heart of this challenge as it will restructure the public transportation network and improve mobility flows in the city.

DESIRED SITUATION
Solution
Meep’s solution Meep Opti is a tool for optimising public transport routes and user occupancy levels. The solution allows for the visualisation of each of the integrated public transport lines and occupancy by time slot allowing for hourly future forecasts. In this way the city or municipality can gather essential information for improving the timetables, routes and optimising occupancy.
Results
- Meep Opti was implemented for the city of Ajka’s bus lines, allowing visual control of the routes, hourly occupancy, and demographic data.
- The solution offered real-time public transport information, updated timetables, and notifications, enhancing the reliability of the public transport network in Ajka.
