Sant Joan Despí – Monitoring Air Quality
Challenge
The challenge is to obtain continuous data on certain pollutants produced by motor vehicles, once the Low Emissions Zone has been launched throughout the urban area of the municipality. A solution was sought to meet at least one of the following objectives:
• Evaluate the impact on air quality of the implementation of the ZBE
• Check the behavior of the sensors in situ and the correlations with other methods
Solution
HOPU’s environmental monitoring IoT sensor devices, Smart Spot, collect advanced real-time data about air quality and noise pollution. The solution dashboard provides city and municipal authorities with data and insight its decision support tool based on AI to demonstrate potential interventions and associated impacts and allows for their monitoring over time.
The Smart Spot sensors collect information on air quality (NO2, CO, SO2, NO and O3), particle matter (PM10, PM2.5, PM1), crowds (Wi-Fi devices detection), energy consumption (W) and noise pollution (30db-130db).
Results
•HOPU installed 3 devices in strategic locations across the city
•The company provided the city with a database and platform with recommendation on how to improve air quality by reducing CO2 emissions.
•The city was able to collect, analyse and visualise a large amount of data related to the environmental situation of the city, in a simplified way
•HOPU is working in 62 locations across Europe
•Sant Joan Despí continues to use the HOPU air quality and noise solution following the end of the RAPTOR project
